Journalism - GHANA
Our Journalism in Ghana project

Why Journalism in Ghana?

Home to Africa's friendliest and most welcoming people, Ghana is an intensely colourful land of dense forests, wild savannah and great beaches. Formerly called the "Gold Coast," Ghana is famous for its gold mines, rich fabrics and ancient social traditions. Mixed with a British colonial legacy and other more recent Western influences, Ghana has Africa's most open and exciting modern culture.

Volunteering in Ghana

Our volunteers in Ghana work for established newspapers in the capital of Accra and the smaller town of Cape Coast, investigating and writing their own articles and building up an impressive portfolio of published work. We also have placements in radio stations where volunteers can gain experience behind the scenes as well as behind the microphone.

Why Volunteer in a Journalism Placement?

Experience and cross-cultural exchange! Whether you are interested in pursuing an academic career in journalism, improving your job prospects in the field of journalism, or it is simply something that interests you, our placements are definitely worth considering. We offer the invaluable opportunity to gain experience of journalism in action, while simultaneously learning about a different part of the world, it's culture and it's people. You can take on the role of an intern and be actively involved in the researching, chasing and delivering of news stories. This means that while making your CV vastly more impressive, this placement allows you to experience another country in detail. Through being involved with the media, you will learn about the social, political and economic aspects of the country, whilst also being able to explore it geographically. You will learn about the technical side of journalism, and if you are in a country whose language you already speak, it is a fantastic way to improve those language skills.
