Volunteers on print, radio or TV placements should do as much reading as possible on Ghana as a whole before coming out. If you go in to meet the editor for the first time and he starts talking about Kwame Nkruma or J.B. Dankwah, he won't be very impressed if you don't know whom these people are. You should know the NPP from the NDC, or why cocoa is smuggled into Cote D'ivoire. A good basic understanding of the politics, economy and history of the country is therefore essential.
